Yes... I agree.... they are quite different, but after several attempts, I find they are kind of fun to use.... A way to change things from beneath so to speak.
I don't know if Laura does this, but I usually put my own layer of gesso OVER the gesso that comes on the store-bought board. I actually like to use plain boards that I've gessoed myself best. It creates a different "look"... Brushwork shows differently. Another bit of change... like using linen or using canvas... but "more" diferent.

BTW... Your painting turned out wonderfully!!!!
