 Santa Clara River Bed
I met with a group of fellow artists
in Valencia to paint next to
the Santa Clara
river basin. A
good group showed up in the parking lot next to the bike path so we split up
into different groups and I ventured down toward the river while some others
set up next to the bike path. I walked under the overpass and around the bend
till I came to a scene where the riverbed disappeared into the distant
mountains and the trees and bushes on either side where a wonderful yellow and
gold. I set up and started painting while still other painters came and
set up around me. It was a scene of subtle colors and I started
with the pale sky and mountains. As I worked forward the mountains became darker
and the shadows across the riverbed more pronounced. The sun hit the leaves
with highlights and the bark of the trees turned white. I had a great time and
was sad when the wind kicked up at about 11:30 AM and I had to pack up and
leave. It was a fun time with the other artists and I look forward to doing it
again. I've posted the result of that morning of painting and hope you can
experience the setting through my painting
