Mexican Dancer in Costume
The costume, with its beautiful colors, sparked my interest when I painted this model during one morning with the Thursday group. Although she was sitting outside, I changed the foliage of the background to a dark neutral so the flowers of the head-piece and dress remained the stars. I especially love the splash of her gold earring against the side of her face. The turquoise ribbons framed her head with motion and added a fun accent.
She is one of the other artists who usually paints with the group so it was a treat to have her model wearing this traditional Mexican costume. I am hoping that I will be able to see her dance with her group and get some action shots. Wouldn't it be fun to paint her with all those colors flying?
