Portrait Painting

Finishing my commission of "Maya" is bitter sweet. I am very pleased with the outcome and happy that the client will have this painting for the Holidays but I am also sad to see it leave my studio. In the process of painting Maya, I feel as if I have come to know her and in turn to care for her. Her infectious smile and engaging gaze have kept me company over the weeks as her image emerged on the canvas.

I have learned a great deal by painting this portrait. A change only the width of a hair can alter the expression drastically, so a steady hand and eye for details have helped me realize a likeness that pleases both me and the client.

With only have a few days more before "Maya" is shipped to her home, I am reliving the brush strokes that made her, enjoying the memory of creation and saying goodbye.
