Kauai: Garden Isle Vacation
Local Colors at Art Walk on Friday in Hanapepe
I had less than two days in between my trips to Colorado and Hawaii so it was a whirlwind of activity getting ready. Jeff and I had both been to Kauai, but not together. I had done some research for the trip and wanted to start with the Art Walk that takes place on Friday night in Hanapepe . The galleries stay open until 9PM and the quality of the art was wonderful. The quiet, relaxed atmosphere was nothing like the bustle of Waikiki or Lahaina. We strolled the town and decided to stay for dinner. Excellent.
Na Pali Coast on Kauai
Since the Na Pali Coast can only be accessed by boat or hiking, we booked a morning sail the next day. The spectacular shore line is a fantastic series of cliffs and valleys, waterfalls and caves.
More of the Na Pali Coast
The only disappointment was that we couldn't snorkel because of rough ocean conditions. I was game but the captain said no.
After all the sun on the sail boat, we opted to stay close to the condo and explore the local sights. Getting to the Fern Grotto was a slow, gentle ride on the ferry to a tropical paradise.
We then explored the area driving to various lookouts and waterfalls. Each one was more spectacular than the last. We also took some back roads and got lost in the fields. Kauai doesn't have much in the way of tourist signs so we never did find that one waterfall but the ones we did find were impressive.
Wailua Falls
Mahalo and aloha. There is more about Hawaii in the next post.
