Carmel By the Sea is an amazing place. At least that is what everyone says. Unfortunately every time I have been there it has been foggy and cold, so it was a wonderful surprise when Wednesday the weather was sunny, clear and gorgeous. I went exploring and found a number of sites I wanted to paint over the next two days for the
Carmel Art Festival.
Wednesday at 5 PM was check in at the Carmel Art Assn. I got there early to get my canvases stamped and had an opportunity to meet a number of other artists. After check in, it was a mad dash to paint something before the sun went down.
I drove out 17 Mile Drive to Pescadero Point and started my first painting of the competition. Usually the first one is a tough one. I was excited and nervous, so unsure how this first painting would go. Maybe it would be one I needed to loosen up. But no. I was thrilled with how this painting turned out. The late afternoon sun cast a warm color on the rocks. From the painting you'd never know that it was freezing and windy. What I endure for my art. To see other plein air paintings click on

This painting is now on display and for sale in Carmel on Mission and Ocean Blvd. If you would like to buy it you can. More to come on the
Carmel Art Festival.
